I really enjoy precision rimfire rifles, especially when they are as nice as this. Previously I was fortunate enough to review the Vudoo Gunworks V22 rimfire rifle, you can check that out here. That introduced me to the world class quality Vudoo delivers. When I built my precision centerfire rifle it was a 60° action, naturally this left me wanting my rimfire rifle to match. Thankfully last year Vudoo Gunworks announced the much anticipated V22 Three 60, three lug action.
Now with VGW offering a traditional 2 lug 90 degree action and the Three 60, three lug sixty degree action, in traditional rimfire or magnum cartridges like the .22 WMR and .17 HMR any configuration is virtually possible. VGW, based in Utah, has become the go to destination for high level precision rimfire competition shooters, bench rest, or people who want the best in rimfire. Customer service has been outstanding and what I appreciate is they are willing to work with the customer on their order to make sure the configuration is just what the customer wants. Having spoken with several who have ordered, the only complaint is the wait.
When I received my Three 60 it was a barreled action, meaning it was just the action, barrel and trigger. Speaking of trigger, I decided to try the Vudoo Flavio Italian handmade trigger which is generally reserved for their benchers rifles. Holy clean trigger break! This trigger is truly the most crisp, cleanest trigger I have ever fired. Break weight is just over a pound with absolutely no creep. I can see why it is reserved for bench rest as my first thoughts was it was almost too light.
I assembled the action in to a McMilan U1 in my favorite color scheme, you can learn more about that rifle stock in my review. To say that this turned amazing is an understatement. The scope I am using in the Kahles K25i which provided excellent clarity and color.
Accuracy and performance is exactly what I expected for the high level rifle using match ammunition. In the rimfire world, minute of angle, or MOA, is usually the standard of what is considered high level accuracy. One inch groups and 100 yards, half inch groups and 50 yards are generally indicative of a very nice rimfire rifle. This rifle, like other VGW rifles I have experienced surpasses that producing groups generally around half MOA. Again for a rimfire rifle, that is excellent. Unlike centerfire rifles, the ammunition consistency is the big hurdle as one can not hand load preferred loads, rather test various lots of ammunition or use a barrel tuner to extract best performance.
As you can see, the 50 yards testing with and without the barrel tuner show this rifle is capable of accuracy.
