One common complaint—a shortcoming, some might say—regarding the AR-15 design is the lack of an option to fold your buttstock or brace out of the way when you don’t need it, or to reduce the firearm’s overall length to enhance portability and/or maneuverability.
The Dead Foot Arms MCS Folding Adapter changes all that. The adapter itself is available as part of a package that includes everything you need to add fire-while-folded capability to your AR platform. These ready-to-go, drop-in adapter kits are designed to work seamlessly with most AR-based firearms, allowing you to create your own custom, compact, foldable AR platform.
New features for the Gen 3 unit include a QD Snap function for enhanced side retention while still allowing for button-free stock deployment; a new hinge bolt that offers user-adjustable swing tension for the folding mechanism; a lower overall profile for the block itself for improved clearance when charging the firearm; and a relocated lock release button for expedited folding of the buttstock or brace.
The package includes the folding adapter assembly along with DFA’s Modified Cycle System (MCS) buffer tube, a complete MCS M-16 style BCG—essentially a shortened version of the mil-spec M16A2 full-auto unit—plunger, recoil and plunger springs.
Dead Foot Arms claims compatibility for AR-platform pistols and rifles in a wide array of calibers, including .223, .223 Wylde, 5.56×45, 300 BLK, 7.62×39, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, .458 SOCOM, .50 Beowulf, and .350 Legend. The included MCS bolt and carrier group is designed to support .223/5.56/300 BLK. A separate bolt will be required for other calibers.
The carrier itself is machined from 8620 steel, heat-treated, and final-ground. The standard bolt (.223/5.56/300 BLK) is machined from 9310 steel, heat-treated, shot-peened, and MPI’d. All components, including the cam and firing pins, are treated with Blacknitride+ by H&M.
If you want to apply the adapter to a PCC, an available 9mm kit is compatible with most 9mm AR-platform pistols and rifles. A spring cap and rubber bumper are included with the 9mm kit. Further options are also available, including a full-auto-rated “Bootleg” BCG. Visit the DFA website (link below) for more information.
Right- or left-folding adapters are available and should be specified at the time of purchase. We should note that the buttstock or pistol brace is sold separately. DFA offers an array of options, but you can also adapt your own commercial or mil-spec stock or brace to the system. Options—it’s good to have ’em.
