The scholarship competition offers a $20K scholarship to a rising Bryan Station High School senior of color who is committed to pursuing a career in criminal justice at a Kentucky college or university.
Lexington, Ken. (January 2022) – GALLS, LLC® and ONE Lexington recently announced they’re partnering up for the “Be the Change” scholarship competition by offering a $20,000 scholarship for a Bryan Station high school senior of color who’s committed to pursuing a career in criminal justice at a Kentucky college or university.
GALLS’ Real Inclusion Starts with Empowerment (RISE) committee worked with One Lexington to jump start the scholarship program for Kentucky high school seniors. The RISE team was put together within GALLS “to create a diverse, inclusive organization, in which individualism will be celebrated, and each employee will be respected, valued, and empowered to develop and thrive within the company.”
“GALLS is not just committed to serving current public safety personnel, but we are also committed to serving and supporting our future leaders in the criminal justice and related fields,” Mike Fadden, CEO of GALLS, stated.
ONE Lexington Director, Devine Carama, spoke with Lex18 news, that this scholarship program was a game-changer, and is an opportunity that can shift a generation, if not an entire family. ONE Lexington is an initiative founded by the Lexington, Kentucky government in the summer of 2017 to coordinate all activities addressing violent crime. Their mission is “to coordinate, leverage and mobilize City Government and community resources to enhance safety and quality of life in neighborhoods experiencing violent crime.”
The deadline for the “Be the Change” scholarship program is Jan. 28, 2022. Candidates are required to write an essay regarding representation within the criminal justice system. For more information, click here.
