The Washington State House this afternoon passed HB 1240, the so-called “Assault Weapons” ban, by a vote of 56-42 and sending the bill to Gov. Jay Inslee’s desk for signature.
The bill bans the manufacture, transfer or sale of Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), however an amendment in the senate was adopted to allow Federal Firearms Licensees to liquidate any existing inventory that was acquired prior to January 1, 2023, if the transfers and sales are made to out-of-state customers. The House of Representatives concurred with that addition and approves the governor now has five days to sign the ban into law as he has pledged to do.
In-state manufacturers of MSRs will still be allowed to sell or transfer to out-of-state customers. It would, however, be ill-advised for a Washington state FFL to sell an MSR to a resident of another state in an in-person, face-to-face transaction inside their licensed establishment.
NSSF® has already pledged to challenge this unconstitutional attack on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Washingtonians and if it is formally signed into law by the governor, NSSF will see Governor Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson in court.
NSSF will continue to keep our members informed.
