Athlon Optics has continued to enhance the Rangecraft Velocity Pro Radar Chronograph experience with significant updates to the Athlon Ballistics mobile app and chronograph firmware. Designed to provide shooters with more data visibility, streamlined session management, and improved device connectivity, the latest app enhancements make it easier than ever to capture, analyze, and organize velocity data in the field.
The Rangecraft Velocity Pro already delivers accurate velocity measurements for rifles, pistols, air guns, shotguns, bows, and crossbows through advanced Doppler radar technology. Now, with expanded functionality in the Athlon Ballistics App, shooters can access more information in real time and gain deeper insights into their shooting performance.
For backcountry and long-range hunters, that expanded data set answers a question a tight group at 100 yards never fully can: How fast is a given load actually moving once it leaves the barrel? A rifle can print a tight cluster at 100 yards and still precisely impact a distant target when the velocity differs from the number on the ammo box by 50 to 100 feet per second or more, since advertised figures come from a test barrel of a specific length and don’t account for an individual rifle’s barrel length, barrel condition, or the day’s temperature.
At 100 yards, that gap is invisible on paper. Stretch the same shot to 400 or 600 yards, the ranges where many backcountry elk and mule deer opportunities present themselves, and a ballistic calculator running on an assumed velocity instead of a chronographed one can be off by several inches of drop at the closer distance and well over a foot at the longer one, even from a rifle that is grouping perfectly.
That’s precisely the gap the Rangecraft Velocity Pro is built to close, and where the latest Athlon Ballistics App updates add the most value. Instead of guessing, hunters can chronograph their actual load and get true muzzle velocity, along with shot-to-shot consistency in the form of standard deviation and extreme spread, the exact inputs a ballistic app needs to build an accurate drop chart for the ammunition they are actually carrying into the field.
With Athlon’s new app enhancements, the data is easier than ever to capture and put to use during load development, well before the season opens.
One of the most notable additions is a “live view” feature, which allows velocity data to be displayed simultaneously on both the chronograph and a connected mobile device. This real-time display gives shooters greater flexibility when viewing shot data at the bench, on the range, or during load development sessions.
Users can also enable audible velocity readouts through their smartphone, Bluetooth hearing protection, or wireless earbuds, allowing them to receive shot information without having to take eyes off their firearm or target.
The updated app also features improved connectivity for older phones, providing a more reliable connection experience between the Velocity Pro and the mobile app. User interface enhancements throughout the application create a more intuitive workflow for reviewing and managing shooting data.
For reloaders and precision shooters, the addition of session velocity graphs provides a powerful new analysis tool. Each shooting session now includes a visual line graph that displays velocity trends over time, making it easier to identify consistency, evaluate load performance, and track changes across shot strings—information that translates directly into a more reliable ballistic profile for hunters building a load ahead of an extended-range shot.
Session management has also been expanded with the ability to compare and merge multiple shooting sessions directly within the app. This feature allows users to combine related datasets into a single session for simplified record keeping and more comprehensive performance analysis.
The Athlon Ballistics App is available for iOS and Android devices and supports the Rangecraft Velocity Pro Radar Chronograph via Bluetooth. Existing users can access the latest features by updating the app through their device’s app store.
