Each year at SHOT Show a very special event happens, one that represents the culmination of a full years work on behalf of its organizers. It’s an event like no other, one that brings together warriors, heroes, veterans, Medal of Honor recipients and Americans of all walks of life. It’s a gathering of those who care deeply about veterans and the families that many have left behind after giving the ultimate sacrifice. This annual event, ladies and gentlemen, is Warrior Appreciation Night (WAN).
An outreach initiative that proudly contributes to a number of supporting charities, WAN has joined with military and law enforcement professionals, corporate partners, firearms and outdoor industries, and media to raise money for charities that provide vital services and programs for military and law enforcement men and women and their families.
Warrior Appreciation Night gathers Heroes and Patriots to a single event during the week of SHOT show to raise funds, heighten awareness, and deliver affective action on behalf of those we have sworn to protect. During WAN, open donations are accepted and attendees have the opportunity to bid on donated items in a silent auction, as well as bid openly on more unique items donated by industry sponsors at formal dinner, which features guest keynote speakers and special guests. Auction items are donated by industry sponsors from all over the country and include several custom rifles, custom handguns, custom made one-of-a-kind knives, and many other prestigious offerings.

Since its inception, WAN has grown to include a variety of worthy charitable outreach efforts including The Stars and Stripes Foundation, American Legion, Honor the Fallen, The Lone Survivor Foundation, NSW Kids, Stand by the Wounded, Operation K9, Law Enforcement United, and America’s Mighty Warriors. This enables attendees, sponsors and guests the opportunity to participate in an event that directly benefits military and law enforcement men and women and their families, while at the same time socializing and networking with industry professionals and personalities, as well as several Hollywood celebrities and Medal of Honor recipients.

Up until about a year ago, I exclusively used a Derlin action block much like the one seen here. Derlin blocks are useful but introduce other issues such as setup time, lining up pins, torque flex, etc. I often found the need to apply more than mil-spec torque to the barrel nut when installing a barrel and could visually see the upper flexing. It made be cringe but I didn’t know of any other option.
