TROY, AL, Jan. 11, 2022 — Kimber Mfg., Inc., is pleased to announce the R7 Mako pistol won a coveted Golden Bullseye Award from NRA’s Shooting Illustrated magazine, taking the trophy for the magazine’s “Handgun of the Year” category.
Doug Hamlin, executive director of NRA Publications, stated, “These are the industry’s best new products, representative of the top products introduced by the firearm industry for NRA Members.”
Released August 19, 2021, the R7 Mako is Kimber’s initial foray into the high-capacity, micro-compact polymer pistol market. The R7 Mako uses Kimber’s new proprietary Performance Carry Trigger™ and a unique barrel lock-up design to extract unparalleled accuracy. The trigger garnered high praise with media touting it as the best trigger in a concealed-carry pistol ever, saying no aftermarket trigger is needed. In independent NRA testing, the R7 Mako’s groups were about half the size of leading comparable guns; all R7 Mako groups measured well under an inch (0.76” average).
Other benefits the R7 Mako gives to consumers are class-leading total capacity of 12 rounds (14 rounds total capacity if using the extended magazine), and the ability to co-witness the iron sights with the optic installed (OI) model, which features the CT 1500 red-dot optic. Aftermarket accessories soon will include state-compliant 10-round magazines and 15-round extended magazines.
Greg Grogan, Chief Strategy Officer at Kimber, said, “The Kimber team worked diligently to understand the customer needs, study the competition, and design the ideal micro-compact polymer pistol. We’re extremely proud of the R7 Mako, and winning the Golden Bullseye Award from Shooting Illustrated for ‘Handgun of the Year’ proves our hard work paid off. Winning this award is an honor, and we’re thankful the NRA saw in the R7 Mako what we knew all along: This pistol is a testament to Kimber’s relentless pursuit of innovation, performance, and craftmanship. We’re looking forward to expanding into even further new territory with continued success.”
For more information about the award-winning R7 Mako, which has an MSRP of $799 for the (OI) model tested by Shooting Illustrated, or $599 for the (OR) model, visit r7mako.com. To check out any of Kimber’s other fine, premium firearms, visit kimberamerica.com.
