Units like the PWS FSC556 can literally make your AR feel like a .22LR… even an ultra light carbine.
The AR-15 platform isn’t really known as a shoulder knocker. Gas operation and smaller calibers usually keep recoil to an absolute minimum. But, without a good compensator, even the slightest recoil can shift your sight position, and require you to acquire the target again before the next shot. This takes time.
To speed that process up, consider replacing your current muzzle device with an effective compensator. Units like the PWS FSC556 can literally make your AR feel like a .22LR…even an ultra light carbine.
By directing gasses exiting the barrel at a rearward angle, it pushes the gun forward and “compensates” for the recoil normally felt from the round being fired. The two directional forces cancel each other out, and what you have is nearly motionless operation.
This sounds awesome right? But, there is a downside. That gas pressure forced backward can affect some people just as much as recoil. Instead of muzzle jump, the unsettling pressure wave sent back at the shooters face can cause them to flinch. And its not just a pressure wave. My carbine with a 14.5 barrel and pinned PWS is the loudest gun I currently own. I would say its effing loud. But, its crazy light, easy to maneuver, and doesn’t jump at all.
A good compensator has a lot of advantages, just double up on the hearing protection.

I recently traveled to Bend, Oregon to compete at the Crimson Trace Midnight 3-Gun Invitational and report on the event for Guns & Tactics Magazine. It’s the only match of its kind, taking place on the Oregon high desert with competitors shooting in the dark of night into early morning using lights and lasers. It was an amazing experience and my first 3-gun match, ever.
CMC Triggers’ new KRAGOS Glock compatible slide symbolizes victory and strength, much like that of the Greek God in which the name was inspired.
3-Gun Nation (formally known as the National 3-Gun Association) was originally formed by Pete Brown and Chad Adams to showcase and drive interest to the exciting yet loosely-organized sport of 3-gun across the U.S. Over the roughly 7 years since its inception, 3-Gun Nation has gone on to become the premier regulatory body for 3-gun competition and boasts a proud and varied membership that is growing by the day.
Everybody has their own approach to EDC gear (every day carry) depending on where they’re going, what they’re wearing and what their priorities are. What you carry while going to the grocery store in your gym shorts to grab some bacon on a Saturday morning will likely be different from what you carry on your way to the airport for a business trip. In addition to my gun, spare mag, pepper spray, and knives one of my most often used EDC items is a flashlight.
Apex Tactical has expanded its aftermarket upgrade options for the extremely popular Springfield Armory Hellcat with a threaded barrel.
