We take a quick look at the new TORCH light from Mission First Tactical. Is it a must have or a bust?
Mission First Tactical (MFT), a Pennsylvania based designer and manufacturer of AR-15 components including stocks, rails, and grips has just launched its new TORCH Backup Light (TBLW) with dual LED’s.
The TORCH is a low profile, Picatinny mounted, recessed pressure pad activated light designed as backup to a primary illumination source. The low output illumination allows for signature reduction when needed.
Keeping with tradition of designing simplified products, The TORCH is controlled using a single on/off pressure pad button that is also used to control light output variations on certain models.
Three models are currently available: Dual White LED; White/Red LED with Hi/Lo output controls; and IR/Red LED with Hi/Lo as well. MSRP is $59.99.
The Picatinny mount is secured with a single set screw similar to that found on the Magpul MBUS sights.
The TORCH is IPX7 rated for waterproofing up to 1m and the battery door opens with quarter-turn utilizing a quarter.
Weighing just 22 grams (3/4 of 1 ounce), the TORCH boasts a 10-year storage lifespan, 12-hour burn time with an output of 20 lumens and is no bigger than most automobile key fobs.
As with all MFT products, the TORCH is no different in that it was designed and is manufactured in the USA and comes with a no questions asked lifetime warranty.
When I first saw the light, it only produced 20-lumens of light. I thought it would be a cute little gizmo that I would probably never use. I was really surprised when finally in a dark room, as the light actually did a decent job illuminating the room with fall off around 30-feet. This light would make a great primary home defense weapon light or a duty backup light. It is sleek, rugged and was really well designed. I am excited it is made in the USA as I tend to support companies who make an effort to manufacturer in the United States.
