Ideal as an entry weapon, daily patrol rifle, even a 3-gun competition suitable carbine.
Lost to the United States in 1989 with the creation of the Import assault weapons ban, and re-introduced in 2013, the Steyr AUG/A3, is a firearms platform with a tremendously rich and highly seasoned tradition of nearly 150 years of craftsmanship, reliability and innovation. Established in 1864 in Steyr, Austria, Steyr Arms is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious firearms manufacturers, and is behind one of the most comprehensive lines of premium hunting rifles and tactical firearms available. Steyr is far from a new company and certainly not one without a well-earned reputation of quality and craftsmanship, in bringing back the AUG they have done a fantastic job keeping with the original bullpup design features, while introducing several new enhancements.
With an overall length of 28.15 inches including a 16-inch barrel attached, the AUG/A3 is not only 8 inches shorter than an AR-15 carbine with a comparable-length barrel; it runs exceptionally cleaner due to its short-stroke-gas-piston operation. Its stainless steel components and guide rods offer unparalleled smoothness during operation as well as exceptional reliability. Dual gas-adjustment settings ensure its functionality even with the dirtiest of ammunition. The Steyr AUG/A3’s 25-position Picatinny rail is a reasonable amount of rail space and makes sighting options nearly limitless, to include numerous optics and back-up iron sights. The AUG/A3 has all the classic features and benefits that established it as the pinnacle of modern rifle design, including expedient disassembly as well as simple conversion to left-hand operation, which requires replacement of the standard bolt with the optional left-eject bolt. It also features a quick-change barrel with a collapsible forward grip.
The AUG/A3 deserves much more than a passing glance, in fact for those looking for a little more than the typical array of AR platforms that are available you owe it to yourself to check this one out. The fit, finish and function of the AUG/A3are outstanding, making it an ideal tool for an entry weapon, daily patrol rifle even a 3 gun competition suitable carbine. The AUG/A3, which comes with a transparent polymer 30-round magazine, has a suggested retail price of $2,099. For more information check out http://www.steyrarms.com
