Welcome to the February 25th, 2018 edition of 2A News. The mass murder in Florida is still dominating the news. Anti-Second Amendment groups and the media (but I repeat myself) are still calling for Common Sense Gun Laws™.
President Trump is proposing a lot of anti-Second Amendment laws and regulations:
I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue – I hope!

But, he bounces back with wanting to arm teachers:
During the meeting with Parkland students at the White House on Wednesday President Trump said arming teachers is a step that can be taken to make schools less-attractive targets for attackers.
He said that as things stand, attackers have nothing to lose because no one can shoot back.
CNN quoted Trump saying, “Gun-free zone to a maniac—because they’re all cowards—a gun-free zone is ‘let’s go in and let’s attack because bullets aren’t coming back at us.’” He said adopting a policy where “20 percent” of teachers were armed would reduce or eliminate the perception of weakness, making schools a riskier target to strike.
Trump said, “If you had a teacher who was adept with the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly.”
But then he goes and does this:
But, as Bloomberg reports, The White House is considering the idea of using restraining orders to take firearms away from people considered “dangerous” as part of its response to last week’s massacre at a Florida high school, two people familiar with the matter said.
Dr. Gina Loudon asks the question, “Do You Trust Federal Bureaucrats to Decide if You’re Sane Enough to Keep Your Second Amendment Rights?”
“Which government agency do you want to audit your mental health and get to decide whether or not you and your child get to have your Second Amendment rights?” Dr. Gina Loudon asked Breitbart News’s Senior Editor-at-Large Rebecca Mansour Tuesday on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight.
Loudon challenged calls for denying Second Amendment rights to people deemed to be in poor “mental health,” warning that such a move would empower the federal government to broadly define mental impairment.
“About 70 percent of us are … are diagnosable by the Diagnostics and Statistical Manual,” said Loudon. “Seventy percent of us are diagnosable with a mental issue. Which government agency do you want to audit your mental health and get to decide whether or not you and your child ever get to have your Second Amendment rights?”
Mansour quipped that Democrats will seek to define conservatives as mentally ill.
Senator Bill Nelson (D) wants to ban over 200 different rifles:
During the February 21 CNN Town Hall, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) indicated that the he wants to ban over 200 different rifles in response to last week’s Florida school shooting.
The Florida school shooter, Nikolas Cruz, used an AR-15, so Nelson wants to ban semiautomatic Kalashnikov’s too.
And again the myth that America is the worst country for mass shootings is debunked:
Via Investorsbusinessdaily.com:
Gun Deaths: It’s become commonplace to hear after a U.S. shooting tragedy that, when it comes to guns, America is just more violent than other countries, especially those in Europe, where many countries have stiff gun-control laws. It’s a progressive shibboleth, but even some conservatives agree. The only problem is, it’s not true.
Yes, America does have a lot of gun violence. But more than other countries, especially in Europe?
To listen to America’s politicians, you’d think that was the case.
President Obama talked about it a lot, including in June of 2015, after a gunman shot nine people in a Charleston, North Carolina church: “Let’s be clear: At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries,” Obama said.
Gun sales are up in Cape Coral, FL:
“We’ve definitely seen an increase in sales since that horrible event that happened,” Forum said. “Enough of our customers understand that if enough of our lawmakers get together, we’re going to see another assault weapons ban like we saw in 1994, which was a 10 year ban.”
Argyle Independent School District Police Chief Paul Cairney discusses the steps to arm staff to carry on campus:
Companies are dumping the NRA:
Metlife, Hertz, Delta, United and a host of other companies are severing their ties with the NRA its refusal to support another assault weapons ban following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. But in an unprecedented step first reported by Axios, Bank of America said in a statement that it’s reexamining relationships with clients who make AR-15s – the weapon that was used by shooter Nikolas Cruz to murder 16 of his teenage classmates and one adult.
MSNBC considers the Second Amendment a so-called right to bear arms:
And, last but not least, Megan Boone from NBC’s The Blacklist wants us to know her character will no longer carry Assault Rifles:
Liz Keen will never carry an assault rifle again and I am deeply sorry for participating in glorifying them in the past. Yours, girl from Florida
