:: EDC knife from Sharps Bros.
:: Unique button-lock folding mechanism
:: Crafted from S35VN steel alloy & titanium

When you hear the name Sharps Bros., chances are you immediately think of the company’s distinctive billet AR lower receivers. Whether you admire their bold aesthetics or consider them over-the-top, there’s no denying the exceptional build quality and design detail the company puts into its products.

Founder John Sharps, known for his work in the firearms world, is also a passionate jiu jitsu practitioner and knife enthusiast. That passion led him to start designing knives a few years ago, learning about metallurgy, blade geometry, and user-focused design along the way.

One of the standout results of this creative pursuit is the Meanstreak 3” Button Lock folding knife. Sharps considers it one of the most beautiful products the company has ever designed, and it’s easy to see why. The Meanstreak is both visually striking and highly functional, making it a solid choice for everyday carry.

Its 3-inch blade is made from S35VN stainless steel, a high-performance alloy known for its excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and toughness. The handle features a combination of stainless steel and titanium scales, offering durability and a premium feel, while the deep-carry pocket clip is also made from titanium for added strength and a low-profile carry.

Weighing in at just 4.5 ounces with an overall length of 7.1875 inches, the Meanstreak is compact enough to carry comfortably while still feeling substantial in hand. The knife is assembled using Torx hardware, and the blade pivots smoothly on a custom-designed bearing system that uses both brass and ceramic elements. This attention to mechanical detail results in a fluid deployment and closing experience that’s uncommon in knives at this price point.

What truly sets the Meanstreak apart is its unique button lock mechanism, which blends mechanical ingenuity with design flair. The button itself is integrated with the company’s logo, which appears to pop up in a three-dimensional form when the blade is deployed. To unlock and fold the blade you simply press the logo, which then returns flush with the scale for a clean, cohesive appearance.

This mechanism was made possible through the use of wire EDM machining to precisely cut both the button and the surrounding material. According to Sharps, the locking system uses a mix of titanium and hardened stainless steel, with the stainless portion surrounding the button to allow for proper hardening. This pairing ensures that the contact surfaces wear evenly over time, maintaining reliability through repeated use.

The development of this button lock took more than two years of prototyping and refinement. Sharps cited inspiration from legendary knifemaker Ray Appleton, whose artful and complex button-lock designs have become rare collector pieces, often valued at over $10,000. While the Meanstreak isn’t chasing those price tags, it carries the spirit of innovation and aesthetic detail that makes Appleton’s work so admired.

As Sharps Bros. continues to explore new knife designs and expand its product offerings, the Meanstreak stands as a strong debut into the edged tools category. With premium materials, a striking visual design, and thoughtful mechanical execution, this folding knife represents a natural extension of the brand’s reputation for precision and craftsmanship.
