We began here at UN12 with a focus on some of the wildest custom firearms we could find, but we’re still suckers for the classics.
That said, there’s something timeless about the combination of polished blued steel and walnut grips, especially when it comes to something with the history and pedigree of the Browning Hi-Power.
Springfield Armory is leaning into that classic appeal with the newest SA-35 variant, which pairs a compact 4-inch barrel with a polished blued finish that recalls earlier eras of handgun craftsmanship.
Chambered in 9mm, the new 4-inch Polished Blued SA-35 builds on Springfield Armory’s modern interpretation of John Moses Browning’s original P-35 design. While the pistol retains the distinctive profile and traditional styling, a number of practical refinements are placed to meet contemporary expectations.
The most noticeable feature is the polished blued finish applied to the forged carbon steel slide and frame. That deep, lustrous appearance is complemented by checkered walnut grip panels that showcase the wood’s natural grain while providing a secure gripping surface.
These elements give the SA-35 a distinctly traditional appearance that stands apart from the polymer-framed handguns dominating today’s market.

Beneath the classic exterior, the SA-35 incorporates several modern enhancements. These include improved ergonomics and controls, a factory-tuned trigger, and an updated sight arrangement consisting of Springfield’s signature Tactical Rack rear sight and a white-dot front sight.
An improved feed ramp is designed to accommodate modern defensive ammunition, while a flush-fitting 15-round magazine provides greater capacity than the original P-35 design.
The new model’s shortened 4-inch barrel and slide assembly also offer a more compact configuration than the standard SA-35, making it an attractive option for shooters who appreciate traditional steel-framed handguns but want something better suited to EDC.
Manufactured in the USA, the SA-35 combines the familiar handling characteristics and unmistakable appearance of the classic Hi-Power with a collection of thoughtful updates.
For those who prefer the feel of steel and walnut over modern synthetic materials, Springfield Armory’s latest addition offers another way to enjoy a historic design without giving up contemporary functionality.
