In the heart of the Arizona desert, Adam Gable dedicates his days to the craft of creating custom knives. As the artist behind Arma Tool Company’s knives, he blends his passion for craftsmanship with a love for the artistry of edged tools.
Adam’s initiation into the world of custom knives began with the purchase of his first piece, and his journey was further propelled by a friendship with a fellow knife collector. The allure of well-crafted blades proved irresistible, prompting him to create his own blades.
Although he had been an artist and craftsman for as long as memory served, it was only a few years ago that Adam decided to focus his creative energy on knife making, specifically folders. His diverse skills extended beyond folding knives, encompassing an array of cutleries, from kitchen knives to Viking axes.
Away from the rhythmic clinking of metal in his knife shop, Adam’s life is equally vibrant. For two decades he traversed the globe, immersing himself in the live music industry. Touring with an eclectic mix of artists, he found inspiration in the rhythm of different cultures, a melody that echoed in the unique designs of his knives.
In the realm of custom knives, Adam’s creations stand out. While he predominantly focuses on crafting folding knives, his versatility shines through as he continues to accept commissions for an array of edged blades.
The AH-64 model as shown here is just one example of his handiwork. As you can see, Adam’s knives are true works of art—a synthesis of form and function. A knife from Arma Tool Company isn’t just a tool; it is an extension of its owner’s personality, a testament to the unique connection between the craftsman and the client.
When asked about the increasing demand for custom knives, Adam spoke passionately about the intimate nature of the relationship between a person and their knife. A custom knife, he believes, is not merely a tool but a personalized experience. Working with a knifemaker allows individuals to have a say in the design, materials and craftsmanship, resulting in a blade that is uniquely theirs.
Beyond the personalized touch, Adam emphasizes the broader impact of supporting a custom knifemaker. Each purchase, he explains, is a contribution to multiple small businesses, which in turn fosters a sense of community and sustainability. The knives crafted by Adam Gable aren’t just tools.
