There’s little doubt that the Heckler & Koch MP5 is one of the most iconic modern-era subguns. Since its debut in the mid-1960s, it has spawned a long line of variants and copycat clones. Like the AR-15, the MP5 and its brethren are abundantly modifiable.

Popular firearm accessories maker Magpul has recently added its own modern spin to this venerable platform with an extensive collection of MP5-compatible products. The list of parts includes two types of handguards, a grip module, and an ambidextrous safety lever, each designed to Magpul’s exacting standards and distinctive style.

We tried out Magpul’s new wares on an old HK94 clone we rediscovered in our possession, a Cohaire Arms CA94. The HK94 is a 16-inch-barreled, semi-auto carbine version of the MP5 original. We thought this clone would make a suitable candidate for seeing how Magpul’s new parts could transform the old girl into the belle of the ball.

If you’ve ever worked on a clone firearm, you’ll know that installation of some parts doesn’t always go as smoothly as you’d wish. We were pleasantly surprised that all of the Magpul parts we fit to the CA94 went on without a hitch. We installed a Magpul SL Hand Guard – HK94/MP5, Magpul Enhanced Selector Kit (ESK), and Magpul SL Grip Module. The installation instructions were clear and each of the parts fit perfectly.

We completed the CA94 facelift with several items from other companies such as HK Parts.net for a totally new look with improved performance. Take a look at the callouts to see what upgrades we made.
