Looking back, quite a few UN12 featured firearms have incorporated Scalarworks products, usually in the form of the company’s various quick-detach optics mounting solutions cataloged under the Leap lineup.
Leap mounts are available for a variety of optics including red dots, holosights, magnifiers, prisms, and traditional riflescopes, and in a variety of heights to tailor to varied shooting styles and build setups.

What caught our eye more recently though, while mulling options to outfit our current M4E1 project carbine, were Scalarworks’ open sight, or BUIS, options—called Peak.
Peak backups are available in two styles, fixed and folding. Peak/01 is the fixed A2 style and offers the familiarity of the classic fixed style while incorporating Scalarworks’ updated features and functionality, refined styling, and high build quality.

More relevant to our interests, Peak/02 is Scalarworks’ folding BUIS option. Scalarworks claims these are the lightest, most compact, and easiest to use folding irons available, and we believe it.
While the 01s are available in a single standard A2 height—1.42”—Peak/02s are available in either A2 or taller 1.93” height to interface with Scalarworks’ varied optic mount heights to provide a wider range of lower-third co-witness with equipped optics.
Additionally, the super compact design is tailored to use with the widest range of laser aiming modules, with the low-profile base included to facilitate mounting of the laser module comfortably behind the BUIS.

As admirers of improved aesthetics as much as enhanced functionality, we love their minimalist look and sleek presentation.
Scalarworks Peak iron sights are crafted from CNC-machined 7075 aluminum with 4140H steel internal components and furnished with a standard Type III black anodizing with a flash nitride finish.
The adjustment range is 51MOA elevation at a 15” sight radius and 46MOA windage at 15” sight radius. Peak/02 iron sights are available as front or rear individually or as a matched set. The sights ship with a nylon-patched fastener screw and the necessary T25 Torx driver for adjustment.
