COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (gunsandtactics.com) — The USA Shooting Team has secured exclusive use of a shooting range in Denmark for a pre-Olympic Games Training Camp, thanks to a contribution from Dallas Safari Club (DSC).
Prior to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, the USA Shooting Team conducted a similar camp in Korea. That move was considered a key factor behind the team’s successful showing with six medals, twelve top-5 finishes and two Olympic records.
Immediately before the London Games, which begin July 27, the range in Copenhagen, Denmark, will be specifically dedicated for use by the U.S. Olympic Team for training around the clock in a distraction-free environment. In addition, the camp will be used to enhance team unity and commodore as well as solidify the athlete support structure.
The partnership between DSC and USA Shooting has been building for several years. DSC has provided pivotal funding to help underwrite the cost of sending emerging elite junior athletes to the World Shooting Championships and the World Clay Target Championships. With this support, USA junior team members won 10 individual medals and 10 team medals.
DSC is an international leader in conservation, education and hunter advocacy. Most members of the current USA Shooting Team are active hunters and anglers, blending a passion for the outdoors with winning on the world stage.
“We’re extremely proud to support USA Shooting and the athletes as they get set to represent our country—as well as our sporting way of life,” DSC Executive Director Ben Carter said.
“Many members of the USA Shooting Team come from a hunting and wildlife conservation background, and they’re true ambassadors for our community both at home and abroad. We feel privileged having the ability to assist them with the training opportunities they’ll need to enhance their success in London.”
DSC sponsorships are reciprocated by shooting team members assisting with DSC conventions, youth education events, public exhibits and more.
“We’re especially grateful for the support that Dallas Safari Club continues to provide the USA Shooting Team,” said Buddy DuVall, executive director of the USA Shooting Team Foundation. “With an eye on the future of our sport as well as the necessary boost they’re providing for our London-bound athletes, DSC has been a valuable team member and is raising our competitive abilities.”
USA Shooting, a 501c3 non-profit corporation, was chartered by the United States Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for the sport of shooting in April 1995. USA Shooting’s mission is to prepare American athletes to win Olympic medals, promote the shooting sports throughout the U.S. and govern the conduct of international shooting in the country. Desert bighorns on an unbroken landscape, stalking Cape buffalo in heavy brush, students discovering conservation. DSC works to guarantee a future for all these and much more. An independent organization since 1982, DSC has become an international leader in conserving wildlife and wilderness lands, educating youth and the general public, and promoting and protecting the rights and interests of hunters worldwide. I recently got my hands on TracerX’s Heckler & Koch P30s V3 and was very impressed with its ergonomics even though, due to my job, I’m on a Glock platform in my personal and professional life. I’m a lefty shooter, and the Hk is a pretty ambi-friendly gun. I’ve always believed Hk pistols to be well-respected combat firearms, until I felt the P30 trigger… it is abysmal. Heavy, gritty, ridiculously long take-up and reset, this is where the P30 series with the DA/SA trigger is seriously lacking. Due to the poor out-of-the-box trigger, I would not ever consider this pistol for daily carry, despite all of the other positive features of the pistol.
