Called Out – POF USA Tombstone
It’s no secret that lever-action rifles are the latest hotness in firearms, and it’s easy to understand why. They’re fun to handle and to shoot. Not to be outdone by traditional lever-action makers, POF-USA has boldly released one of their own, designed and crafted from the ground up to be the most modern take on this venerable action type.
Tombstone is POF-USA’s version of a lever-action rifle, and as with everything else the firm does, Tombstone is meant to revolutionize lever-actions through the company’s innovative design approach. Unlike other “cowboy caliber” levers, we’re happy to report that this lever-action is chambered for more modern 9mm cartridges.
In fact, POF-USA tells us that this is the first-ever 9mm production lever-action rifle. That’s refreshing news for those of us who aren’t interested in adding yet another caliber to our ammo inventory. Word is that other pistol calibers will follow.
The rifle is fed via the same POF-USA proprietary double-stack box magazine that the company’s Phoenix sub-gun takes and is available in both 20- and 10-round capacities. Coming in at a compact overall length, just 36 inches, the rifle also weighs a scant 5.75 pounds unloaded. Its trigger is rated at 3.5 pounds and features a smooth pull and crisp break.
Its 16.5-inch 4150 steel barrel is free-floated for increased accuracy. A removable dual-port muzzle brake comes on the barrel to help with fast follow-up shots.
Needless to say, we’re excited about Tombstone and can’t wait to get it out to the range. Although it looks sexy right out of the box, we’re already looking into customizing it. But before we get to it, we’re content to enjoy it as is—for a little while at least.
