BEAVERTON, Ore. – Leupold & Stevens, Inc. sponsored shooters Doug Koenig and Jessie Duff swept the men’s and women’s overall titles at the 8th Annual NRA World Action Pistol Championships held in Philippsburg, Germany, September 12 to 16.
No strangers to the victory podium, both Koenig and Duff had to battle for their titles against the world’s best action pistol shooters.
Koenig’s match came down to “X” counts, or hits scored in the very center of the 10-ring, after his score of 1,916 points left him in a three-way tie for first. His 184 X’s gave him a 13 X-count victory and his 5th World Action Pistol Championship.
Duff’s match came down to a single point on the last stage. Her 1,900 points, (151 Xs) won the ladies title and earned Duff a 10th place overall finish.
“We could not be more proud of Doug and Jessie,” said Mike Slack, senior manager of advertising and communications for Leupold & Stevens. “Knowing that the world’s best shooters have the utmost confidence in our products is a compliment to everyone here at Leupold.”

Koenig returned to the victory podium as part of the U.S. Open Team A squad, who won the team division with a strong 7,652 score (658 Xs). Duff, shooting with the U.S. Open Team B squad, brought home a third-place finish with a team score of 7,573 (566 Xs). Along with partner Julie Golob, Duff finished second in the Team Ladies division.
The NRA World Action Pistol Championship is made up of four different stages, similar to the U.S. Bianchi Cup held each year. Shooters are challenged to shoot from behind barricades, at turning practical targets, at moving targets and at steel plate racks. Scores are based on scoring areas on the target, with center hits earning 10 points. Extreme center hits earn an X and are used as tie-breakers.

One of the best parts of this gig is the learning. Always a student, no matter your knowledge base…there’s always someone out there that knows more than you. In my case, there are scores of people that have forgotten more than I’ll ever know, so I count myself fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to talk with them.
