In the ever-evolving landscape of AK enhancements, Midwest Industries has carved a strong foothold for itself with the company’s latest collection of firearm upgrades, the AK Alpha Series. Midwest Industries, long known for innovations in the AR-15, shotgun and lever-action space, has now set its sights on the AK platform. The AK Alpha Series of accessories is the culmination of 15 years of relentless innovation, and we’re excited to see it come to fruition.

Midwest Industries (MI) didn’t just drop a handguard and called it a day. No, that wouldn’t do for the creative minds at MI. The company’s designers and engineers created an entire collection of parts that includes handguards, optic mounts, a railed top cover, a folding stock and a laser and light mount.

With such a wide array of AKs on the market, each made at varying quality levels, it’s not an easy feat to make parts for the platform, but the MI team did it. These parts will fit most any AK—as long as certain requirements, such as barrel diameter, trunnion size and the like are met.

The best showcase for these new parts would be an AKM made to the high standards MI would approve of. For that, MI sourced a Rifle Dynamics RD 706 rifle to fit the AK Alpha Series parts to. The RD 706, with its innovative design and forward-thinking features, is a nice example of Rifle Dynamics’ (RD) commitment to AK excellence. The 7.62x39mm caliber rifle is equipped with a Rifle Dynamics-designed 1913 rear trunnion, a mounting point that expands folding stock options like never before.

Attached to this trunnion is MI’s Alpha Series folding stock. This Picatinny rail-mounted folding stock redefines versatility with its heavy-duty side-folding mechanism, an adjustable polymer cheek piece and a customizable butt pad. Seamlessly blending durability with adaptability, it is the perfect complement to the RD 706. The Alpha Series stock not only looks great on the RD 706, but it feels great, too. Its adjustability allows for the perfect cheek weld, even when swapping optics.

Turning toward the front of the rifle, AK enthusiasts will recognize the Rifle Dynamics tunable combination front sight/gas block. This gas block not only provides precise tuning options but also contributes to the rifle’s overall balance. If you’ve never held an RD rifle before, you’re missing out.

They make some of the most well-balanced AKs that we’ve had the pleasure of shouldering. The front-end design of the RD 706 isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a thoughtful engineering feat. By strategically moving the center of gravity closer to the body, Rifle Dynamics has significantly improved the rifle’s handling to make it a responsive and agile companion in any scenario.

Looking just forward of the gas block, you’ll find MI’s AK Alpha Series m-lok handguard. This drop-in component not only imparts m-lok versatility but also features a specially designed heat shield for enhanced protection. The internal heat shield ensures durability even under sustained fire, a testament to Midwest Industries’ commitment to quality. Like the folding stock, AK Alpha Series parts such as the handguard seamlessly integrate into the RD 706, taking it to new heights of performance.

The top cover of the MI-modified RD 706 is another AK Alpha piece that takes the rifle to another level. This railed top cover allows AKs a steady place to mount a red dot optic, and since precision is paramount, the AK Alpha railed top cover provides an accurate return-to-zero solution. The adjustable locking block ensures compatibility with most AK firearms, offering a stable platform for optics without compromise.

MI finished up this AK by mounting an Elcan Scepter DR 1-4x optic to the railed top cover as well as a ZenitCo Perst-4 infrared and visible laser designator, with remote switch, to the handguard. Both of these accessory attachments would be either not possible or awkwardly done on a standard AK without MI’s Alpha Series upgrades. You’ll also find a TangoDown AK Battlegrip on the rifle; it’s one of our favorite AK upgrades.

For those looking to improve their AK’s controls, an assortment of other AK Alpha Series parts such as dedicated optic and laser and light mounts are also available. In essence, the Midwest Industries AK Alpha Series is not just an accessory line. It’s a testament to craftsmanship and innovation. Combine these Alpha Series components and you get a fusion of American-made excellence that will take your AK to a new tier of performance.

The marriage of a Rifle Dynamics RD 706 and Midwest Industries AK Alpha Series parts is a union of precision engineering and American ingenuity. For those who are seeking to give their AKs enhanced functionality, this customized rifle stands as a monument to what can be done with MI’s latest line of AK upgrades. We have a feeling that MI isn’t done yet, and we’re excited to see what the company adds next to the AK Alpha Series. Images courtesy of Midwest Industries
